The increasing awareness about the impending energy depletion and the desperate need for energy saving has forced many to search for the versatile tactics that can aid in making use of some form of alternative sources of energy for our relentless energy demands. However, several factors need to be considered when it comes to the set up and maintenance of alternative sources of energy for personal and commercial use.

Factors to Be Considered

With the skyrocketing popularity of the alternative sources of energy namely the hydro, wind, solar and nuclear energy, the option of getting them set up for personal or commercial use is widespread. But before you arrive at this big decision, the following points would help you to choose the best form of alternative source of energy that would suit your needs better.

Suitability/Viability: The first and foremost factor that needs intent analysis and research is to check out the suitability for the installation of the alternative source of energy at the location of your choice. You cannot afford to set up air and wind turbines at places devoid of clear windy seasons or get benefited by setting up a solar power trapper at a location near Antarctica. Before finalizing on the viability of the installation at the geographical location of your choice, make sure that you discuss this with a local energy expert in your area.

Sustainability: Yet another factor that you have to look out is as to how long you would be able to tap power from the alternative source of energy of your choice throughout the year. If it is seasonal, then you have to make sure that the energy source is available for a major part of the year at the location you choose.

Affordability: Setting up a large scale hydro power plant or a large scale heat pump that harnesses the potential of geothermal energy is something pretty expensive whereas setting up a mini active solar energy trapper at home is workable and very much viable. Have a clear understanding on how much you can afford to spend on this set up and opt for the most suitable option that would not create an irrecoverable hole in your wallet.

Environment Friendliness/ Probability of Pollution Induction: When choosing to make use of an alternative source of energy at work or your workplace or on a land that you own, you have to ensure that you have obtained the mandatory local permission to make the set-up first. It should not be ecologically destructive at any cost. Local inhabitants constituting humans, animals and birds of that area should not get affected in any way due to the incorporation of your new set up.

Portability: The set up that you choose need to be portable. The best example is an air turbine that can be moved at any time based on requirements. If at any point in future, you decide to make a relocation, you should be able to move the alternative source of energy that you had set up to the new location. Otherwise, you should be ready to make a compromise on the relocation.

Before finalizing on your option, consider the above factors intently and make the right choice!

Today, there is more interest than every before in creating alternative sources of energy that are beneficial to the environment and the cost of running industries and appliances. There are some alternative sources of energy that have been in use for quite some time, but have not always been very efficient in producing electricity for various reasons. Technology has been rapidly advancing and the government is also coming into line to fund programs that are working to refine the use of alternative sources of energy so that they are more cost efficient and available to a larger market.

Wind, Sun, Water

The three most commonly used alternative sources of energy today that are also renewable resources are wind, sun and water. These resources have been used for years but have only recently become more effective in the production of energy as other resources have become cost prohibitive to use. Water is the most consistent alternative source of energy because it can be stored up and released to make sure that the energy consumption remains constant over the course of time. Also, in high energy usage times of year, such as around the holidays, the water can be released more quickly so that more energy is produced for consumption.

Wind is another source of alternative energy production, but it can only be used in areas where there is a lot of wind and there are open spaces in which to put the turbines to produce the energy. This is one drawback to using wind, since the turbines are expensive and take up a lot of space. In addition, the amount of wind that is found in a certain area varies from day to day and even hour to hour. This makes wind unreliable in terms of producing a certain amount of energy each day. However, it is consistent in that there will be some wind each day and it does not have an impact on the environment in terms of pollution.

Solar power is another source of alternative energy that has been around for some time. There are now solar panels that can be placed on homes to help run appliances, as well as solar roofing tiles that can be placed on the south side of the roof to help as well. Solar lighting and water heaters are also more common today to help with these energy costs in homes across the country. Solar power is also used commercially, but like wind power, the panels are large and require a lot of space to be effective.

For those who live in windy environments, alternative renewable wind energy might be the alternative energy option that they have been looking for. People have utilized alternative renewable wind energy for years, with the old wind mills where grain was ground up to use in cooking. However, providing large amounts of energy through the use of an alternative renewable wind energy source has not been feasible until recent years when the technology to do so has been invented to make it more cost effective. Most of the time, the wind energy is harvested through the use of wind turbine farms, where vast numbers of wind turbines are set up in an open area so that they can best harvest the wind. The problem with wind energy is that there are not always open places in which to set up the turbines and the turbines are expensive to purchase.

Commercial and Individual Use

Alternative renewable wind energy is normally used commercially because of the cost factor involved in setting up the turbines as well as the large amounts of space that are needed. Wind does have limitations as an energy source even though it is renewable and does not have a negative impact on the environment. The strength of the wind that blows through any given area varies moment by moment so that the turbines are never turning in a consistent manner to produce a predictable amount of energy to an area. This can be disconcerting to city planners who want to utilize wind energy but cannot depend on a certain amount to be available each day. These limitations are still being worked on by scientists as they strive to find more efficient turbines to harvest the wind’s energy.

Alternative renewable wind energy is also used to help with the energy consumption on farms and ranches. Often a single turbine can be set up on the farm or ranch to help with irrigation and other electrical needs. The turbine offsets the electricity costs for the farmer or rancher so that more money can be obtained in profit. Although the single turbines are expensive to purchase and set up, once they are in place, these alternative renewable wind energy solutions will last for years to come with little maintenance, allowing farmers and ranchers to better do their jobs at less of a cost. Although harvesting wind energy has not yet been perfected, it is a viable option for use in certain industries.
