Alternative Energy, the Desperate Need of the Hour

With the drastic current consumption of the non-renewable energy reserves across the world, it is predicted that we might end up in acute energy crisis within a span of another 100 years from now. In addition to the problem of energy crisis, there are several factors that necessitate the search for alternate energy reserves. Why do we Need Alternative Energy?

The fossil fuels that have been the main source of energy since long ago is getting depleted day by day. This precious energy resource was formed from the decayed organic matter that was buried into the earth several hundreds of years back. With time, it got decomposed and was subjected to such pressure and high heat that it got converted to inflammable energy forms. Restoration of the depleting fossil fuel energy would need another few hundred years within which we will completely run out of the existing fossil fuel resources. The probability of an upcoming energy crisis induces a desperate need for alternative energy in some form.

The rising fuel costs and the skyrocketing domestic energy bills induce a very strong need for alternative energy forms.

Impending ecological damage that is likely to be inflicted by the burning of the non-renewable energy sources creates a destitute requirement for alternative energy. Burning of fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide, which is a green house gas that has the capability of reflecting the heat of the sun and has the tendency to retain the ambient temperature hot. Global warming is an ecological concern that arises out of the increase in the carbon dioxide content in the atmosphere. However, the trees which have proven to be the heat sinks absorb carbon dioxide and release the much needed oxygen into the atmosphere. Amidst this interesting factor, deforestation has started sending chills down the spine that the combination of green house effect and deforestation insinuate irrecoverable ecological destruction in the long run.

Pollution inflicted by the burning of fossil fuels and natural gas articulate a mandatory need for alternative energy. The burning of the fossil fuels releases particulate matter into the atmosphere that proves to inflict hazardous health problems in humans. It also releases nitrogen oxides which in turn gets broken down to nitrogen. This process entails the contraction of blue baby syndrome in infants, algal blooms and eutrophication of the water bodies across the globe.

The combustion of non-renewable energy sources tend to give out sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides which in turn have the ability to cause acid rain that proves to be hazardous not only to buildings, monuments but also to the crops and plants worldwide.

Give all the above scenarios, alternative energy forms has become a desperate need of the hour that many researches have started aiming at finding an optimal, usable, viable and practical form of alternative energy resource that can cater to the unceasing energy demands of the human population across the globe.
